Following a tepid performance by the New York Mets after the All-Star break, concerns have arisen among the fan base regarding the lackluster performance of key players on the roster. Head Coach Carlos Mendoza recently addressed these concerns, providing updates on standout player Pete Alonso and another important player currently recovering from injury.
Although the Mets enjoyed a brief respite from their challenging schedule following All-Star week, their return was less than stellar. The team stumbled in their first two games against the Chicago Cubs, including a 2-5 defeat on Saturday, marking their 20th loss in the last 30 games.
While Juan Soto has been regaining his form throughout the regular season, another standout player alongside Francisco Lindor has been leading the charge for the Mets. Pete Alonso has been in exceptional form during recent matchups, including the All-Star game, but he now faces a significant setback.
Coach Mendoza shared a mixed update regarding Alonso and Tylor Megill. Alonso, sidelined for Sundayās lineup against the Cubs due to a right-hand contusion, is now listed as day-to-day as the team prepares for upcoming challenges.
āHe is dealing with a right-hand contusion at the base of the thumb. He felt discomfort during his first couple of at-bats on Saturday. After undergoing x-rays, which fortunately came back negative, heās receiving treatment and reported feeling better this morning. Weāll see if he might be available at some point today,ā Mendoza informed the media before the series finale against the Cubs.

āHeās up to 120 feet, continuing his long-toss regimen, and weāre hopeful heāll start mound work soon,ā Mendoza shared with the media about Megill, a key player who could bolster the Mets as they navigate this challenging phase of the season.
Alonsoās replacement for series finale
With superstar Alonso slated for bullpen duties on Sunday, manager Carlos Mendoza has opted to start Francisco Lindor. This marks Lindorās debut as a starting first baseman for the Mets in the regular season, providing a fresh strategic angle for the series finale.
