Brandon Nimmo isn’t ready to give up hope that the New York Mets can turn things around despite ongoing offensive struggles that have cost them key games. As the team fights to climb back into first place in the NL East, Nimmo is trying to keep the belief alive.
In his latest comments, Nimmo sent a message of encouragement to Mets fans, making it clear that he and his teammates are still pushing to produce more at the plate. “If we keep putting pressure on, it’ll come, it’ll happen,” he said, following a pair of losses to the Royals and Reds where the offense failed to deliver.
Nimmo has done his part lately, collecting five hits in his last 17 at-bats — solid production during a tough stretch. For the month of July, he’s batting .302 with three home runs and 10 RBI, but others in the lineup haven’t been as consistent.
Hope is the last thing the Mets are willing to lose
Nimmo continues to believe that the Mets have enough talent to get the offense going. The goal remains simple: score more runs, win more games, and reclaim the top spot in the NL East, which is currently held by the Phillies — a team that just lost one of Bryce Harper’s teammates to a rib injury.
“Obviously, we’d like to put up a few more runs on the board,” Nimmo said. “We’ve had streaks in both games where we put a lot of pressure on, just not able to get the big hit right now, but we’ve had a few guys come through… there’s some really, really quality at-bats.”
Who’s hitting best for the Mets?
Among the everyday starters, Pete Alonso leads the team with a .276 batting average. That means no one on the Mets roster is hitting above .300 this season. Starling Marte follows at .270, and Nimmo sits at .262 — just ahead of Juan Soto, who’s batting .259 in 432 at-bats.
