Pete Alonso has played a crucial role in the New York Mets‘ recent surge, helping them achieve a 19-8 record to start the MLB regular season. While he hasn’t been the most dominant player at the plate, his timely hits and runs have contributed significantly to the team’s success. However, one of Alonso’s key teammates on the pitching staff could soon be sidelined.

Following Saturday’s matchup against the Washington Nationals, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza addressed the media about the team’s performance and provided updates on several players. One of the main concerns was reliever A.J. Minter.

Minter, who struggled to complete even one inning, experienced discomfort during his appearance. After the game, Mendoza confirmed that Minter is scheduled for an MRI and is likely headed to the injured list. “A.J. Minter is going for an MRI and his injury will most likely land him on the IL,” Mendoza said.

With Minter’s status in doubt, the Mets may be forced to adjust their pitching rotation ahead of Sunday’s series finale against the Nationals. More changes could be on the way as the team looks to maintain its strong early-season form.

He’s getting an MRI. It seems like more of a lat injury. We just don’t know the severity of it,” Mendoza told reporters before Sunday’s game. Mets fans now await further news on Minter, who has been a key figure in the pitching rotation early this season.

Ureña set to return as Mets face Nationals

Despite the setback with Minter, the Mets received some good news regarding their pitching staff. Mendoza confirmed that Jose Ureña is “good to go” and will be available out of the bullpen for Sunday’s game against the Nationals.

With Pete Alonso and Juan Soto anchoring the starting lineup, the Mets are aiming to deliver a strong performance and extend their impressive start to the 2025 regular season.
