Pete Alonso, a star player for the New York Mets with high expectations for the 2025 season, is enjoying a strong start. It appears he’s determined to maintain this momentum with the singular goal of continuing to contribute to his team’s victories.
“I’m just really happy that I’ve started swinging the bat this way. It’s really good but I want to be able to continue that every single day and keep helping the team win,” Alonso told SNY. He currently leads the Mets with four home runs.
The Mets have been managing Pete Alonso’s workload intelligently at the start of the season. He’s one of the first hitters to surpass 60 plate appearances, alongside Soto, and his home runs so far have placed him in a productive position, unlike his Dominican teammate who hasn’t had the same scorching start.
Alonso’s Pace Compared to Last Year
Through the first 15 games of 2024, Alonso had already launched six home runs, driven in 10 runs, and was hitting .271. While he has two fewer home runs at this point in the young 2025 MLB season, his .345 batting average is notably higher, and he’s already amassed 19 RBIs, justifying the “hot start” label.
Projecting over a full 162-game season, assuming he avoids injury, Alonso is on track for 40+ home runs. He hasn’t reached that mark since his second-highest total of 46 moonshots in 2023.

Alonso Not Alone in Mets’ Offensive Surge
While Alonso is enjoying a strong start, he’s not the only Met with four home runs. Brandon Nimmo has matched his long ball total. Although Nimmo’s batting average isn’t as high, he has also contributed four home runs and nine RBIs in 16 games played.
