Anthony Edwards spent most of the year as the biggest candidate to become the #1 overall pick in the upcoming 2020 NBA draft. Edwards is a great talent coming out of the University of Georgia and plenty of teams had high hopes in him until his ‘Pro Day.’
Edwards drew a lot of attention but things have reportedly changed in the last couple of days. He didn’t enchanted front offices during his pro day and now his draft stocks could go down given his bad performance.
He is a shooting guard and his shoot is causing major concerns around NBA executives. The 3-pointer is the most important shot of today’s game and his 29.4 percent from 3-point range in college doesn’t make Edwards a very attractive prospect for most teams in the league.
Anthony Edwards ‘disappointed’ front offices during pro day
The 19-year-old needs to work on his game if he wants to be successful. He is still young and has a lot of room to improve, but teams would have liked to see more from him than just a couple of dunks in front of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
“Multiple front offices were somewhat discouraged watching Edwards’ performance during his televised pro day on Oct. 29, seeing sluggishness and inconsistencies with his jump shot,” ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported Monday.
Edwards has some work to do to fulfill his potential and help whichever team that drafts him to compete in the NBA. It remains to be seen which franchise will pick him next November 18. Nobody is 100% sure about the 2020 NBA draft first overall pick and Edwards could be that guy if the Minnesota Timberwolves don’t mind his ‘sluggishness’ from beyond the arc.
