JR Smith was merciless against Sam Dekker’s wife, Olivia, after she defended her husband from Smith’s claims that he was racist and a Donald Trump supporter. The Los Angeles Lakers guard recently revealed he only dislikes one teammate out of all the people he shared touches with during his NBA career.
He joined the “All Things Covered” podcast to discuss several topics about his season with the Lakers as well as other things. The guard made it clear that he didn’t like Dekker for some comments he made about POTUS Donald Trump that JR didn’t enjoy, and let him know he wasn’t having it.
Smith has been very outspoken against racism and police brutality in recent months but it looks like he had strong political views before this year. The 2020 NBA champion is used to making the headlines for these comments but this time he took it to the next dimension.
“Throughout my whole career, it’s only one teammate I really don’t like. And he know that. And everybody else, I’m just cool with.
This dude Sam Dekker, dog. I can’t – this dude. He did some bulls— on the bus one day, talking some Trump s—, and I just wasn’t having it.”
Sam Dekker’s wife and JR Smith engage in Twitter battle over husband alleged comments
The NBA community reacted to these remarks and while some people agreed and defended Smith, others sided with Dekker. His wife, Olivia Harlan Dekker, didn’t hesitate to reply to the guard, saying that the statement was ‘unfair and inaccurate.’
JR replied to that, asking her to explain why his husband wasn’t allowed to say the infamous N-word, as to what Olivia said her husband has never said that word, wondering what was JR’s motive to make such accusations.
The player clarified that he wasn’t accusing anybody of saying that word, he’s just trying to figure out why he can use that racial slur.
Things escalated pretty quickly here and it’s unclear what is going to happen now. Smith really stirred the pot with his words. Saying that at this time, with racial tensions really high and an upcoming election was something bold to do, which is pretty much what JR Smith does, bold things.
