Ever since he made it to the NBA as the first-overall pick of the 2003 draft, LeBron James has been one of the most polarizing figures in the world. Some people love him, some people hate him.
Regardless of where you stand on LeBron James as a player or as a person, thereās no denying that heās got a huge fan base that would do anything for him. Sadly, thereās also a faction of people who feels exactly the opposite.
That seems to be the case with anonymous Instagram user āwitness.kevin.durant,ā who was recently under heavy fire for posting a picture of a gun and claiming that heāll use it to shoot LeBron in the head when the Lakers play the Nets.
Fan Posts A Disturbing Death Threat, Claims He Will Shoot LeBron James
āOn Thursday, February 18th, I will be going to a Nets vs Lakers game. I will sneak this gun showed in the picture into the arena, and shoot @kingjames in the head during a timeout. You have been warned @kingjames,ā the post read.
Anonymous Fan Backpedals, Claims He Was Just Joking
It didnāt take long before the post went viral on Twitter and the user ā presumably a kid ā got a lot of attention and follow requests. Obviously, he got scared and quickly apologized for making such a terrible joke:
āIād like to publicly apologize for threatening LeBron AS A JOKE. Iāve come to realize things like these arenāt jokes and can be taken seriously. I have over 500 requests after going private because someone posted in on Twitter. Yāall can hate me all yāall want but I truly apologize and if I could go back in time and think before posting something like that I would,ā read the picture.
ā@kingjames I APOLOGIZE. I may not like you as a player but every person deserves respect. If you somehow saw that tweet and feel threatened that is not the case. I just wanted to put that out there,ā the user added on the caption.
At the end of the day, we can only hope that this is indeed a joke and nothing else. There are a lot of bad people out there and no death threat should be taking lightly, so stay safe and strong, LeBron.
