The 2024–25 NBA season was a major letdown for the Phoenix Suns. Despite featuring stars like Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, the team failed to make the playoffs, falling short of expectations amid a string of poor performances and reported internal tensions.

One of the strongest claims came from former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, who said on Run It Back that there were actual fistfights in the Suns’ locker room. “It was never a complete team,” Cousins said about the Suns. “I definitely heard negative things in the locker room. There were a couple of fistfights“.

Amid the controversy, Durant addressed Cousins’ comments on ‘fistfight’ rumors in the Suns’ locker room, posting on X (formerly Twitter) that while the team had a disappointing season, the rumors were completely false. Cousins later revisited the topic.

Cousins later doubled down, claiming his information came from someone close to the situation. The source was one of your teammates killa. And I wasn’t referring to you! Save this s— for the others homie,” Cousins wrote. Durant remained calm but firm in refuting the claim with a clear message. “Whoa whoa Boog, I don’t want no problems with you or anybody on earth. I promise, all I’m saying is your source is lying,” he posted.

Cousins ended the exchange with a final message: “No issue at all killa. Don’t play me for a liar though. The segment I was speaking on was actually defending you as a player. I’m actually tapped in with players unlike the media guys you don’t rock with. Never on some messy s—. That’s why I didn’t go into details about it. I don’t need click bait or lies to speak on the game. Like I said, save that for the others”.

What’s next for Durant?

Following a disappointing season that saw Phoenix‘s much-hyped Big Three of Durant, Booker, and Bradley Beal fail to deliver, the franchise is reportedly exploring trade possibilities involving Durant.

Speaking on NBA Today, insider Shams Charania said that Durant’s future could depend on which franchise believes it’s one star away from contending. “Which team believes they’re a Kevin Durant away from winning a championship? That’s what this could come down to,” Charania said.

According to Charania, the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and New York Knicks are all viewed as potential destinations. These teams not only have the necessary trade assets but also the ambition to compete at the highest level. While Durant’s next chapter remains uncertain, momentum appears to be building toward an exit from Phoenix.
