The Miami Heat’s season has been a turbulent one, marked by internal conflicts, including tensions between Jimmy Butler and team president Pat Riley, as well as inconsistent results that have kept them from finding their footing in the Eastern Conference. Amidst this uncertainty, Tyler Herro has emerged as the team’s brightest star, delivering career-best performances. Yet, he admits he’s feeling anxious lately for an important reason.
“Being an All-Star is one of the things that I would love to accomplish while I’m in this league,” Herro said in a recent interview with the Miami Herald. “If it ain’t this year, it will be next year. If it ain’t next year, at some point we’re going to make it happen.”
With the announcement of the final All-Star selections scheduled for Thursday, January 30, at 7 p.m. ET, Tyler’s anticipation is palpable. “I’m pretty anxious, I ain’t gonna lie,” he admitted. “I feel like this is almost like my first time looking forward to something since draft night. It’s kind of like draft night, honestly. I’m waiting for it.”
This marks the first time in Herro’s career that his performances have put him firmly in the conversation for an All-Star spot. In his sixth season, the 25-year-old guard is averaging 24.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game, ranking 21st in scoring across the league.

Herro earns respect
Herro’s breakout season hasn’t gone unnoticed by his peers. Opposing teams are well aware that he’s Miami’s primary offensive weapon, and they’re adjusting their game plans accordingly. “I feel like every single night, obviously they’re putting their best defender on me, but also putting a game plan together to ultimately take the ball out of my hands and stop me,” he explained.
“So, yeah, it is a sign of respect,” Herro acknowledges about the increased attention he’s receiving from rival teams. “But I think also the ultimate respect is for them to vote me into a game like that.”
Herro competes for an All-Star spot
Though Herro is confident in his case for an All-Star selection, he knows the competition in the Eastern Conference is fierce. “We’ll see, honestly… It’s a great opportunity to be a part of. But if not, there are a lot of great guards in the East who I think are well deserving as well as myself. So we’ll see what happens.”

Indeed, Herro faces stiff competition from other standout guards who have also made their mark this season. Among those vying for a spot on the All-Star team are Damian Lillard of the Milwaukee Bucks, Darius Garland of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Tyrese Maxey of the Philadelphia 76ers—all of whom have had impressive campaigns.
