The New York Knicks have been wandering around the association for quite some time, trying and failing to land good players and create competitive teams in recent seasons. The Knicks have become a living meme and until they start making meaningful changes on the roster, things won’t change for them.

This upcoming offseason, they will try to land one superstar to lead their young players after the fiasco that was the 2019 NBAfree agency. They were aiming to land big names like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and ended up filling the roster with a bunch of power forwards with the same characteristics.

2020 can be different for the Knickerbockers as they’re reportedly exploring trade ideas for a point guard. According to Ian Begley of SNY, the Knicks could trade for Russell Westbrook as long as the Houston Rockets make him available.

“Something else to keep an eye on: some agents who represent top point guard free agents believe the Knicks would poke around on a potential Russell Westbrook trade if Houston makes him available. It’s worth noting that Westbrook, per sources, saw New York as a welcome landing spot last summer when Oklahoma City was talking to teams about potential trades.”

Westbrook had an overwhelming first season in Houston

Russ’ first season with the Houston Rockets didn’t end up as expected. He never clicked with James Harden and the small-ball lineup didn’t help him at the Toyota Center. The Rockets have been linked with trade rumors suggesting that Russ will leave the team via trade but nothing is certain right now.

With the Knicks trying to get a proven star, this could open the door for the Rockets to close the chapter of the failed association between Westbrook and Harden. The Knicks appear to be the team where failed stars go to try to revive their careers but nothing happens in the big apple.

The Brooklyn Nets have seemingly taken over as New York’s team and there is nothing the Knicks can do. Even if they land Westbrook, that won’t solve the mess this whole organization is at this very moment.
