Tyronn Lue is set to become the new Los Angeles Clippers head coach after the Californians ended their seven-year relationship with Doc Rivers last month following an overwhelming season that saw the Clippers blew a 3-1 lead in the second round of the NBA postseason against the Denver Nuggets.

Rivers was never able to take the Clippers past the second round of the playoffs during his 7-year tenure at the Staples Center, blowing two 3-1 leads; one in 2015 against the Houston Rockets and the most recent against the Nuggets in the Orlando bubble.

Lue was already in Los Angeles since he was an assistant coach to Doc Rivers this last year. The team didn’t want to look too far away to find their new helmsman and Lue was the frontrunner to get the job from day one. He was fighting for the spot with fellow assistant coach Sam Cassell and now his turn to lead this Clippers has arrived.

Clippers players are reportedly happy with their new head coach

As stated before, Lue was already part of the Clippers coaching staff. Now he will be the leader of the pack and he already has the most important thing, the support of his players, who are reportedly happy to keep working with him, this time as their head coach.

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the leaders of the team, certainly had a say in this signing. This was believed to be the best choice for the team, rather than look for another man that would have changed everything for the Clips.

Lue has already won in this league. He led the Cleveland Cavaliers to beat the Golden State Warriors in seven games, returning from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals. Hopefully, this man will bring new ideas for a team that is tired to be the subject of jokes around the NBA.
