The San Francisco 49ers are in a weird spot in the NFL. While their Super Bowl window might be closing, they still feel like they can compete with the top dogs. Having a star like George Kittle helps, getting rid of a playmaker like Deebo Samuel not so much. However, it seems like Kittle had something to say about Samuel leaving the team.
While sometimes there is bad blood, this is not the case. Kittle appeared on the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast and said, “I’m happy for him that he went to Washington. Guys need a fresh start sometimes, and he wanted a fresh start, and so, I’m very happy for him. I’m sad that I don’t have him on my team anymore because I just loved having him around the locker room and stuff like that. But I’m happy for him.”
Samuel‘s role in San Francisco was starting to decline due to multiple injuries. This means he needed a place else to restart his career and it seems Washington is that place.
Samuel will be key for Washington, but he has help
Samuel is not going to Washington to be their first weapon. They already have that in Terry McLaurin, who is in his own contract dispute himself. However, Samuel is there to be the jack-of-all-trades player on offense.

Deebo Samuel Sr. #1 of the San Francisco 49ers warms up before the game against the Detroit Lions at Levi’s Stadium on December 30, 2024 in Santa Clara, California.
Having Deebo, who can lineup as a wide receiver and a running back, opens the playbook for an already dynamic unit in Washington. Samuel will be the one in charge of being a difference maker on the field.

Kittle and Samuel might face in the playoffs
The 49ers and Commanders won’t face each other during regular season but that doesn’t mean a game between them won’t happen. If things align themselves, a playoff game is not out of question.
After all, both teams are projected to not only be in the playoffs, but go on a deep run. Samuel will try to lead his new team, while battling old teammates and friends turned footballing foes.
