Andy Reid experienced the impact of the Tush Push with the Kansas City Chiefs during the tough loss they suffered against the Eagles in the last Super Bowl. A moment that even left his star Chris Jones shaken up. Therefore, after NFL owners decided not to ban the play, the head coach expressed concern and warned about the medical consequences.

“If there’s a problem with injury, possible injury, you’ve got to look at it. So, I would probably listen to the medical people on it. See what they think about the body mechanics. You don’t want to go through something like Buffalo went through. If it’s a neck situation, it’s going to be a risk. I think you have to listen to the whole story.”

The Buffalo Bills, one of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ biggest rivals, was another team with great effectiveness in using the play in short-yardage situations. For now, the league has postponed the final vote on the matter.

Was the Tush Push play banned?

No. The Tush Push has not been banned by the NFL. Although the Green Bay Packers proposed that the play be permanently eliminated, the final vote was not held at the last owners meeting and was postponed. For this reason, Andy Reid asked for all possible angles to be analyzed.

“There’s a whole medical side of it. I give them credit because they’ve done a heck of a job with it. It’s a tough play to stop, but then you’re listening to that and the medical side and you probably could go either way with it. I would say, if it’s putting a player in a bad position, then you probably have to do something about it. But if it’s not, it’s a heck of a play. Listen, if it’s an injury concern, then that’s what you have to do. So, you listen to your medical people, see what their thought is, probably go that direction.”
