Tom Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history and it’s not even close. Then again, even the best of the best have lackluster performances at times, and that’s what happened in his long-awaited debut with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday.

Brady got off to a great start with a rushing touchdown on his first drive but it all went downhill from there. He had two bad interceptions – including a pick-six – and struggled to move the chains vs. a tight New Orleans Saints’ defense.

Surprisingly, Bucs’ coach Bruce Arians made it clear that there would be no special treatment on his team, as he called out Brady for both interceptions by claiming that he didn’t read the coverage.

That’s why Hall of Famer quarterback Brett Favre took it to the radio to criticize Arians for his comments towards Brady. The Packerslegend stated that he shouldn’t have called him out unless Brady was aware of it beforehand:

I think the last person you want to call out after the first game of the year is Tom Brady. Now maybe they had a mutual truce going into the game, going into the season, ‘Hey, I’m going to be hard on you. I want the guys to know we’re going to treat you the same even though technically I’m not, so are you OK with it?’ If they have that truce, great. If not, I think you are barking up the wrong tree. Dissension could easily enter quickly,” Favre toldSiriusXM NFL Radio.

Favre went on to add that Arians must be patient with this team, as the chemistry isn’t just going to come overnight, especially considering the fact that they didn’t get to play in the preseason:

“Maybe the Saints didn’t do anything that they were not ready for other than we didn’t protect very well, Tom gets hit a couple of times, you get a little jittery, it happens. First half of the Super Bowl against the Falcons he was getting nailed, played lackluster at best. They went in, had a ‘Come to Jesus’ at halftime, they don’t even come close to touching him in the second half, and he’s flawless. So they clean up the protection, the timing, the chemistry will come. Will it come overnight? I highly doubt it but it will come pretty quickly though and they very easily could be 4-1 after five weeks,” he concluded.

To be fair, the Saints did play some very nice defense on Brady and the whole Buccaneers team and Brady surely can take a critic or two. But maybe, just maybe, he’s not the kind of guy you want to mess up with so early in the season.
