It didn't take long before Cam Newton made history for the New England Patriots after an impressive - and victorious - debut vs. the Miami Dolphins

There was a lot of uncertainty regarding the New England Patriots this NFL season. They parted ways with Tom Brady after two decades with the team and their ‘consolation prize’ Cam Newton was the ultimate low-risk / high-reward pickup for them.

Then again, Cam was pretty bad last season when he was healthy enough to play, and many people were doubting his ability to bounceback and go back to the level that made him the league’s MVP some years ago.

And, while he was far from stellar in his debut vs. the Miami Dolphins, the former Carolina Panther still made his way in franchise history after leading his team to a 21-11 win at Gillette Stadium.

It’s pretty safe to say that even though Tom Brady is arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, he’s far from being a dual-threat or a mobile player. Newton, on the other hand, did most of his damage on the ground in Week 1 vs. the Dolphins.

And, according to Elias, his 75 rushing yards (15 rushes) were the most by a Patriots quarterback since Steve Grogan had 81 in 1977. On top of that, the former MVP added a couple of rushing scores.

Newton also had 15 completions on 19 attempts for 155 yards. The Patriots didn’t need him to do much on the air for most of the season, with Miami struggling to stop their rushing attack from the kick-off.

Now, Supercam and the Patriots will face a much more difficult task in Week 2 when they travel to CenturyLink Field to face Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks, and a win there would most likely make a statement, especially if Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fall to a divisional opponent again on Sunday when they host the Panthers.
