Cam Newton is known for many things but being humble isn’t one of them. The former Carolina Panther made his way to the New England Patriots and everybody expects him to be Tom Brady’s successor as the team’s starting quarterback going forward.
Newton has made a reputation around the league for being a bit of a trash-talker, and he’s taken it to his social media accounts to let everybody know that he’s in for a revenge season at Foxborough.
It was first reported that Cam Newton wasn’t still a lock to be the team’s starting quarterback for the 2020 NFL season but it seems like he’s gotten the best of his competition lately, beating Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer for most of the first-team reps.
That’s why so many people were surprised by his humbling response about whether he feels like he’s sure that he’ll be starting for the team. Contrary to what most people thought, he actually acknowledged that he’s still got a lot of room for improvement.
“Absolutely not. Every day is a work day for me. That label is not important to me right now. I have so much I need to get better at, so much I need to learn, so much I need to be comfortable with. Throughout this process, that’s the last thing that I’m pretty much worried about,” Newton told the media.
Cam Newton Says He Still Needs To Improve To Start For The Patriots:
Moreover, the former NFLMVP admitted that both Hoyer and Stidham are still ahead of him in terms of adapting to the Patriots’ offense but claimed that he’ll get better and will be ready for the start of the season:
“There are certain things when I come to the line of scrimmage and it’s just not as firing mentally as I would want it to be, rather than other plays that may be called. I see a person like Hoyer go to the line and he’s as sharp as can be. For me, asking him questions, and he answers them. Stiddy [too]. There are things I know I need to become better at. Until I get those things done, everything else is irrelevant,” Newton concluded.
When healthy, there’s no doubt that Cam Newton is one of the most talented quarterbacks in the history of the game. The big question is whether he’ll be able to take care of his body and stay healthy throughout the season.
