Week 6 of the 2020 NFL regular season was full of unpredictable scores. Without question, one of the biggest surprises of Sunday’s afternoon was to watch the Denver Broncos dominate Cam Newton and the New England Patriots on the road.
Denver’s top defense keptNewton and the Patriots’ offense in check all day long, and even though they couldn’t score a single touchdown and only scored 6 field goals, they still managed to hold on to an 18-12 win.
There were some doubts regarding Cam Newton’s ability to perform at the highest level after spending the past two weeks on the shelf after a positive Covid-19 test and it was pretty clear that Supercam was rusty and out of sync with his offensefor most of the game.
Cam Newton Admits He Was Rusty But Won’t Make Up Excuses After Tough Loss To The Broncos
“Oh, without a doubt. But we’re still professionals, and we’re supposed to do our job at a high level. We didn’t do that today,” the former MVP told NESN when he was asked about whether he was rusty or not.
Newton was obviously limited in practice due to the Covid-19 protocol and this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen him struggle vs. the Denver Broncos in his career, as he even dropped Super Bowl L in 2016 to them.
Cam showed glimpses of his MVP level throughout his first couple of games of the season and looked primed for a bounce-back season, so maybe people shouldn’t read too much into yesterday’s loss.
The former Carolina Panther completed just 17 of his 25 passes for 157 yards and 2 interceptions, adding 10 rushes for 76 yards and one score. Now, he’ll look to bounce back in Week 7 when the Patriots host the San Francisco 49ers.
