Major changes have taken place in the Dallas Cowboys over the past few months, with the arrival of Brian Schottenheimer perhaps being one of the most significant. For the upcoming NFL season, Micah Parsons, whose place is not yet guaranteed, is a player his coach hopes to have on the roster.

Much has been said in recent weeks about what decision the defensive end would make while his contract situation is being resolved ahead of what’s to come. Some even considered the possibility of holding out until a resolution is reached.

Despite this, Coach Schottenheimer made it clear to the press that he hopes to avoid such a situation, and that Parsons will remain close to the Cowboys even without having his situation resolved yet.

“Micah said he wants to be around. It’s where he wants to be. I think we’re very comfortable with that…I have no question in my mind that he will be around,” the HC said via @NickHarrisFWST.

The goal of building a competitive roster for the Cowboys

Undoubtedly, the situation with the Dallas Cowboys last season was disappointing for everyone involved, which is why the arrival of Brian Schottenheimer as the new head coach brought a sense of renewal within the franchise.

To turn the page, the former offensive coordinator stated that one of the key ways to be a contender next season in the NFL is by building a competitive roster that can fight week in and week out.

“There’s no jobs being given out…Our theme of this program is compete every day…If we’re not creating competition then I’m not doing my job and the players need to understand that.”

Dallas will look to add a wide receiver

Brandin Cooks’ departure left a vacant spot in the Cowboys’ wide receiver department, and EVP Stephen Jones made it clear that they will be looking to strengthen that position for the upcoming season.

“I really like our room. At the same time, obviously losing Brandin Cooks in free agency, we’re still open to looking at a really explosive No. 2 that could upgrade us, Jones said via @jonmachota.
