Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence broke his foot in Wednesday’s practice and will be outof the NFL season for six to eight weeks, sources informed ESPN. WFAA-TV first reported the news of the injury but it didn’t confirm the gravity of it.

Lawrence was listed as a limited participant for Wednesday’s practice. However, he had an MRI, which revealed the break. It’s bad news for the team, after the defense couldn’t generate a sack in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During the training camp, Lawrence lost most of the practice due to an offseason back surgery. However, he recorded six tackles, two quarterback pressures and forced a fumble against the Buccaneers. Now, the team has to manage them without him.

Gregory couldalso be out for Week 2

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport also reported that Lawrence broke the fifth-metatarsal in his foot and it will require surgery. If all goes well, he should be allowed to return in November. However, Dallas will have to face the Chargers without him and without Randy Gregory, who tested positive for Covid-19.

It’s a possibility that the Cowboys will have neither of their starting defensive ends for Sunday’s game. However, Gregory still has chances to be in the game because he’s fully vaccinated. He has to produce two negative tests 24 hours apart before he can return.

If both players can be on Sunday’s match, the Cowboys can use Dorance Armstrong and Tarell Basham as their starters at defensive end, while Bradlee Anae and Chauncey Golston could be the backups. They have combined for 10 sacks in their careers.
