Winning the Super Bowl is every NFL franchise’s ultimate goal—but it also means starting the next season’s draft from the very bottom. The Philadelphia Eagles know this all too well, as they won’t be on the clock until pick No. 32 in the upcoming event. It’s a reality that GM Howie Roseman is fully aware of heading into the selection process.
The mindset within this franchise heading into each season remains the same—or at least that’s what Roseman made clear when speaking to the media. Every year, the Eagles approach the competition from the back of the pack, quietly going about their business without making much noise.
“We always take worst-case scenario and work back from that,” Roseman said to the press. “We’ve got to be really comfortable with whatever is our worst-case scenario, which will always entail getting a good player. There’s never 32 first-round grades on our board. We don’t have 32 first-round grades in this draft.”
A clear example of finding value late in the first round came just last season for Philadelphia, when the Eagles were able to land standout cornerback Quinyon Mitchell with the 22nd overall pick — a move that turned out to be a major win for the franchise.

General manager Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni of the Philadelphia Eagles talk during the preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lincoln Financial Field on August 12, 2021 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
“The guys we thought were most realistic being available at 22, we feel like we got fortunate to get one of the guys we didn’t have in a lot of the scenarios,” Roseman said.

What to expect from the Eagles in the 2025 NFL season
After capturing the Lombardi Trophy, the Philadelphia Eagles head into the 2025 NFL season looking to defend their title with a roster that still boasts plenty of firepower. Jalen Hurts will be again under center, backed by one of the league’s most dangerous offensive weapons in wide receiver A.J. Brown. The addition of Saquon Barkley last year continues to look like a game-changer, giving Philly a true dual-threat backfield that will keep defenses on their heels.
However, the offseason hasn’t come without change. Franchise legend Brandon Graham officially announced his retirement, leaving a void in both leadership and defensive edge presence. That loss, combined with aging depth along the defensive line, makes edge rusher one of the key positions the Eagles may look to address in the upcoming draft.
In addition to the edge, Philadelphia could also look to bolster its secondary. Despite drafting Quinyon Mitchell in 2024, there’s still a need for more depth at cornerback and safety, particularly as the team eyes long-term stability in its defensive backfield. Linebacker could also be an area of focus, especially if the team wants to tighten up its run defense.
Overall, expectations remain sky-high in Philly. With a loaded offense and a front office known for smart, calculated moves, the Eagles are well-positioned to make another deep postseason run. The challenge will be keeping the momentum alive and filling key roster holes without the luxury of an early draft pick.
