Things could’ve gotten a little ugly in the Week 8 game between the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears, as Javon Wims’ sucker-punched Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in the third quarter of the Saints’ 26-23 overtime victory.
Javon Wims punched the Saints’ safety on the helmet twice and started clapping his hands before he was ejected from the game as expected. Also, Saints’ Malcolm Jenkins had to break up the scuffle before things got way more serious.
Needless to say, the footage traveled across the internet in the blink of an eye, and some people were giving both players a hard time, so Gardner-Johnson had to step up and defend his pride on social media.
Saints Safety CJ Gardner-Johnson Says Bears Javon Wims Punches Like A Female
“That man punch like a female. Don’t cap for the Gram. Ain’t no man punch on me, bra cheap shot like a fee,” Saints defender Chauncey Gardner-Johnson wrote on a couple of stories on his Instagram account.
Saints Marshon Lattimore Says Javon Wims Was Dirty
Several Saints’ players stepped up for their teammate, who apparently didn’t even taunt Wims before he punched him in the helmet, with Marshon Lattimore claiming that it was a dirty play by the Bears’ receiver:
“That was a dirty play, and we don’t play that. We’re grown men. And we don’t go for that stuff. We had to step up. And I told him, we all told him, ‘I got you,” Marshon Lattimore said after the game.
The Chicago Bears are currently sitting on a 5-3 record and even though they’ve dropped back-to-back games, they still have a strong shot at making the playoffs. That, assuming that their inefficient offense finally starts clicking.
That makes Wims’ situation even more worrying, as he’s likely going to be disciplined by the NFL and could end up missing next week’s toughclash vs. the 5-2 Tennessee Titans on the road.
