Justin Fields has been chosen by the New York Jets to replace Aaron Rodgers as the franchise’s new starting quarterback. Now on his third team since entering the NFL, the talented signal-caller knows he has strong backing from Aaron Glenn as he prepares to take the reins of the first team.

As the first moves of all 32 teams begin to take shape ahead of the upcoming season, Aaron Glenn’s debut as head coach offers a glimpse into his vision for the future—one that places Fields at the forefront as the leader of his squad.

ā€œThere’s a quiet confidence about that man that’s unshakable,ā€ Glenn stated to the press. ā€œEven though he’s not the most vocal person, he’s active with his body language, he’s active with his 1-on-1 conversations. If he has to stand in front of the guys & say something, he will. He will. He’s not one of those guys that’s gonna talk just to talk, cause sometimes if you do that players around you can get deadhead, but he says things when it needs to be said.

ā€œHe’s a really good athlete, he works his butt off in the weight room. He’s a guy that’s doing everything he can to improve, and whatever advantage he can get from coaching, strength and conditioning, being on the field, he’s gonna take that advantage and he’s gonna run with it, so I’m very happy where he’s at.ā€

The impressive run by the Detroit Lions — where Glenn was part of Dan Campbell’s coaching staff — drew the attention of several NFL franchises. Among them were the New York Jets, who took notice of the former defensive coordinator.

In recent statements, Glenn himself acknowledged the influence Campbell had on his decision to pursue his journey to becoming an NFL head coach.

ā€œI think he in the back of his mind, he was prepping me to be in this position,ā€ Glenn said about this situation. ā€œBut also, I think he knew I had the ear of the team also, not just the defense because I vibe with those guys on the offense quite a bit.

ā€œI think I’ve said this before, every morning at 7:30, J-Mo [Jameson Williams] was in my office and we would sit there and talk, so I do agree with that. I think it was a little bit of both now that I actually look back and just think about the positions that he put me in, but again, I give him so much credit for making this a seamless transition for me to stand here and be the head coach of this team.ā€
