The Green Bay Packers are preparing for their Week 1 encounter vs. Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions. This is a game they would want to win not only because the idea is to start the season with a bang, but also because it is a divisional rivalry. However, they might need to start planning this game without one of Jordan Love‘s new weapons.
Once again, running back MarShawn Lloyd is dealing with a hamstring injury that could not only make him miss the opener, but even more weeks down the line. Lloyd is expected to be prominent in this offense as Josh Jacobs’ backup.
Now, as head coach Matt LaFleur said, “He’s gonna miss some time.” Lloyd missed all but one game during his rookie season last year. The second-round pick also spent the start of last year’s training camp out because of a hip injury. Now, he will miss a blockbuster against Jared Goff’s Lions.
Lloyd’s career could really take a bad turn
Availability is the best ability, some say. Also, running backs are the most exchangeable players in the NFL. Most barely make it out of their rookie contracts before getting traded or cut. Lloyd was the reason why the Packers let go of A.J. Dillon last year. Whose to say Lloyd won’t suffer the same fate? In the end, Dillon was available, Lloyd can’t even get fit to play.

MarShawn Lloyd #32 of the Green Bay Packers walks to Ray Nitschke Field for rookie minicamp on May 03, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
This is very concerning, since the Packers spent a very valuable second-round pick to bring him to the team. “To be honest, I have not and I don’t think any of us have, or very few of us have,” Packers running backs coach Ben Sirmans said about Lloyd’s bad streak of luck with injuries. Jordan Love will have Josh Jacobs on the backfield, but it won’t be Lloyd the one to get Jacobs’ snaps once he gets tired.

Unfortunately for the running back, every single injury he’s had is one that he can’t play through. When you compile the list of injuries, it’s just undeniable the bad luck he’s had since arriving to the league. These are the reported injuries he’s suffered since he got drafted:
