Josh Allen and the Bills were one of the teams that had the most success using the famous Tush Push play, which helped the Eagles win the last Super Bowl against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. However, Buffalo’s head coach, Sean McDermott, warned about the risks it poses to player safety.

“I’ve dove deeper into more of the data on it and just thought more about it as well and my position hasn’t really changed at all. Where I’m most concerned is, even though there’s not significant data out there to this point, my biggest concern is the health and safety of the players. First and foremost. It’s force, added force, and then the posture of the players, being asked to execute that type of play. That’s where my concern comes in.”

The ban on the play has generated a lot of controversy in the NFL. Names like Dan Campbell have supported the Eagles’ technique, but others, like Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs, have joined McDermott in raising concerns about player safety.

Can the Tush Push play be banned?

No. The Tush Push play won’t be banned for now, as the vote to decide its future was postponed at the last owners meeting. However, the topic could be brought back for discussion in the coming months.

What play is the Tush Push?

The Tush Push play is used in short-yardage situations and is very similar to a quarterback sneak. As the quarterback dives forward, the entire offensive line drives into the defensive line, while the defense isn’t allowed to do the same kind of push. In fact, other offensive players push from behind to help their quarterback pick up the first down.
