The last NFL season was far from easy for the Atlanta Falcons, and even more so for veteran Kirk Cousins. A dip in his performance led to him being replaced by his backup, Penix Jr., which caused many to question his future with the franchise. Regarding this situation, it was the QB himself who made his intentions clear for what lies ahead.
According to NFL reporter Albert Breer via his official X account, Cousins requested a meeting with Arthur Blank, owner of the Falcons, to express his intentions regarding his future. The former Vikings QB wants to be in a team where he is the starter for the upcoming season.
âSources: QB Kirk Cousins asked for, and got, a meeting with Falcons owner Arthur Blank on his future. Blank and Cousins had that meeting Wednesday nightâthe QB wants to go to a place where he can start in 2025,â Breer reported via @AlbertBreer.
From now on, it will be a matter of analyzing the different scenarios being considered by the franchise. It will only be a matter of days before we finally know if Atlanta will once again bet on Cousinsâ experience to start as the QB, or if, on the contrary, they will give him the green light to join another team.

During his last season with the Falcons, Cousins played a total of 14 games, recording 3,508 passing yards, contributing to 18 touchdowns, and accumulating 16 interceptions, many of which were decisive in certain games.

Could Cousins return to the Vikings?
Kirk Cousinsâ future situation remains an uncertainty. From the playerâs camp, itâs said that he only wants to be part of a franchise where he can be the starting QB for the upcoming season, while the Falcons have yet to make a statement regarding his continuity.
Now, many are starting to wonder where the former Washington player could end up if he doesnât secure his continuity with the Falcons. One possible destination where he might have a chance to play is none other than Minnesota, the team where he was a player from 2018 to 2023.
âJ.J. is going to be the starter, but you have to have some veteran insurance there,â said NFL Draft expert Daniel Jeremiah on the Pat McAfee show. âFirst of all, the guy (McCarthy) needs to stay healthy, and with Kirk Cousins, I just thought it was a unique opportunity for somebody who knows the offense inside and out. Atlantaâs footing the bill, so itâs going to cost you next to nothing. He can literally play for the league minimum like Russell Wilson did last year.â
While Atlanta has assured that they are comfortable with having Cousins as a backup QB, the playerâs intentions are to be a starter for some team, which means his situation is far from being resolved.
