You have to work harder than everybody else to make it in the NFL, especially as a rookie. You have to get there early and leave late, put in a lot of work on your craft, learn the playbook, and continue to grind every single day. That's how Mac Jones became the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots.

The rookie out of Alabama was impressive in the preseason and not just because of his play, poise, and promptness. He was also a stud outside of the gridiron, meticulously working on learning the plays of a much more complicated offense.

That's why Bill Belichick thought he was ready to take over for Cam Newton who, as a veteran, struggled to learn the team's playbook after more than one season, pretty much signing his death sentence in the league.

Patriots News: Mac Jones' Girlfriend Helped Him Learn The Playbook

But how did Jones manage to learn the Patriots' playbook so quickly? Well, apparently, he had some outside help; as he recently confessed that his girlfriend has been his personal assistant since day one:

“A lot of times I’m very visual, so that definitely helps,” said the Patriots rookie. “I’ve always been a very visual learner, and that helps to see it, whether that’s drawing it or walking through it or doing it.”

The Patriots QB then said he’s recruited [girlfriend Sophie] Scott to help test him on everything he’s learned as part of that prep work.

“Yeah, she actually does,” Jones said. “She does a good job. Most of the time she just walks through [plays] in the yard. Yeah, she helps me a lot. Yeah, we do walkthroughs,” Jones confirmed upon follow-up questioning. “I just kind of do them with her and throw into a net.”

Well, you know what they say: Behind every great man, there's a greater woman. So, boys, if you're looking to becoming QB1 for an NFL team, you better choose a girl who's willing to go the extra mile to help you out.
