Shedeur Sanders was once projected to be one of the top picks heading into the NFL Draft, but things didn’t go his way—and as of now, he remains unsigned by any team. The Cleveland Browns, holding the 94th overall pick, chose Dillon Gabriel instead. According to GM Andrew Berry, there were more than enough reasons behind that decision.

The former Oregon Ducks quarterback entered the draft with uncertainty surrounding his future, but luck seems to be on his side—he now finds himself in a position to compete head-to-head for the starting QB job against Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett under head coach Kevin Stefanski.

ā€œWe really felt strongly about Dillon throughout this process,ā€ the General Manager addressed the media after being asked why the team chose Gabriel over Sanders.

ā€œThink he’s a really strong, really, really good prospect. That’s not to say that we didn’t meet with other quarterbacks that we thought were really talented players and good people, but we felt strong about Dillon and felt he was the best quarterback to pick,ā€ he also added.

ā€œThe time that we spent with Shedeur and what he’s done throughout his college career is impressive,ā€ Berry said about Sanders. ā€œHe’s an impressive young man. He’s a really good quarterback. Sometimes fit comes into play.ā€

Sanders opened up about his feelings after going undrafted

One of the biggest surprises of the 2025 NFL Draft was the dramatic fall of the Colorado Buffaloes QB down the board—so much so that he went unselected through the early rounds of the event.

As the hours went by and the commissioner continued calling names, the Qb’s’ hopes of being drafted slowly began to fade. After going unselected, Shedeur Sanders shared an emotional message in the wake of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Thank you God for everything,ā€ the talented Buffaloes quarterback stated through his social media, expressing gratitude for having gone through this pivotal moment in his career.
