NFL News: Aaron Rodgers reportedly has a huge reason to avoid signing with Steelers

While the Steelers remain in the hunt for a veteran quarterback, sources say Aaron Rodgers is keeping his distance. A major, rarely discussed factor may be pushing him away from Pittsburgh entirely.

Aaron Rodgers is still taking his time deciding whether he wants to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers or not. Now, in a surprising report by Dianna Russini, for the first time in weeks, his contract money is mentioned as a possible reason for avoiding signing.

“When it comes down to it, usually it’s money. Financials are always part of it. He doesn’t need to sign and take some cheap deal. He knows that the Steelers need him. Do I think he was willing to take less to play for a team that he thinks is a Super Bowl caliber team like the Minnesota Vikings? Absolutely. But I think this situation is different.”

The situation is very complicated for Pittsburgh. Although Rodgers is a former Super Bowl champion, his numbers in recent years don’t show that he should be paid like a top quarterback in the NFL. However, there are no more options left on the market.

Has Aaron Rodgers signed a contract yet?

No. Aaron Rodgers still hasn’t signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and according to what Russini mentions, one of the issues that has hardly been brought up is how much they’re willing to pay him.

“I think he understands that he has the leverage in terms of their needs. There’s going to be a number here that’s going to make Aaron happy and I don’t know if Pittsburgh is there yet.”

Sam Darnold signed a three-year, $100 million contract with the Seahawks, while Geno Smith just received a two-year, $85 million deal from the Raiders. Given this scenario, it’s hard to see Rodgers accepting less than $35 million for a season.
