NFL News: Aaron Rodgers visited Steelers and left Pittsburgh with a big contract decision

In a surprising turn of events, Aaron Rodgers made a high-stakes visit to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan didn't get the expected contract decision from the quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers visited the Pittsburgh Steelers, raising hopes that he would finally sign with the team. However, according to a report by Gerry Dulac, that did not happen despite meetings with head coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan.

“Rodgers also met with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith during his visit. He has left the facility without a deal, but that doesn’t mean it still might not happen, per sources.”

At the moment, the former Super Bowl champion quarterback has only two remaining options: the Steelers and the Giants. There is a very unlikely scenario in which the Vikings change their mind about J.J. McCarthy, but in that case, Rodgers would have to wait until almost August to go to Minnesota as a last-minute alternative.

Did Aaron Rodgers sign with Steelers?

No. Aaron Rodgers did not sign a contract with the Steelers during his visit to Pittsburgh. In fact, according to a report by Tom Pelissero, the meeting was not planned in advance, making the future scenario completely uncertain. Omar Khan failed in his goal, allowing the quarterback to leave the building without a deal. Not the expected result for Mike Tomlin.

“Aaron Rodgers was in the Steelers facility this morning. My understanding is that this was kind of a last-minute type of a thing. He spent some time with coaches. He’s been talking to people in the organization for a while. There have been certainly a lot of signs that he’s seriously considering playing his 21st season in Pittsburgh. This is the first time though that Aaron Rodgers has taken an actual visit to a team. There’s no deal done. There’s no deal imminent. It’s not like he was coming in to sign. He popped in. He spent time with coaches and spent time around the facility. This thus set the table to potentially make a decision and set off the rest of the dominoes across the quarterback market.”
