Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs still have a chance to make the playoffs despite having a 6-7 record. At the moment, they are the 10th seed in the AFC with a 12% chance of reaching the postseason, but in a very important detail, they no longer control their own destiny.
Surprisingly, the Chiefs have lost four of their last five games, leaving them in a very difficult situation. They can no longer officially win the AFC West, as the Broncos have pulled ahead with an 11-2 record.
However, not all is lost for Patrick Mahomes and his teammates. If they want to stay alive and dream of an unlikely Super Bowl run, it all has to start with a win this week against the Chargers.
Can the Kansas City Chiefs make the playoffs?
Yes. The Chiefs can make the playoffs if they win their games against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Tennessee Titans, the Denver Broncos, and the Las Vegas Raiders. In addition, they need certain other results to go their way.
If they manage to win out, the Kansas City Chiefs would finish the season with a 10-7 record, pending the occurrence of these other scenarios. First, the Chargers would need to lose to either the Dallas Cowboys or the Houston Texans, in addition to necessarily losing their remaining game against the Denver Broncos.
In addition, the Chiefs need the Indianapolis Colts to lose two of their remaining four games without Daniel Jones: Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Houston Texans.
