NFL News: Andy Reid has reportedly made big decision for Patrick Mahomes’ future with Chiefs

Andy Reid is making moves that could define Patrick Mahomes' legacy with the Chiefs. After years of searching for stability on the offensive line, Reid's latest decision promises to give Mahomes the protection he needs to dominate once again.

Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs need to find a way to protect Patrick Mahomes if they want a chance to win the Super Bowl again during the 2025 season.

A few months ago, the Eagles dominated the Chiefs’ offensive line, recording six sacks. That was the key factor in Philadelphia lifting the Lombardi Trophy in New Orleans.

Now, the biggest news after the return of Travis Kelce might have come from the Draft. After the first few days of training camp, Reid finally seems to have found the answer to all the problems of the past few years at left tackle.

Who is the Chiefs current left tackle?

Josh Simmons will be the Chiefs’ starting left tackle. After Joe Thuney’s departure to the Chicago Bears, and his position shuffling last season, a report from Jordan Schultz confirms that Andy Reid has found the man he was looking for to fill that spot.

“Spoke to a Chiefs source about rookie Josh Simmons. The team has been impressed with him all summer, and he’s on track to start at left tackle in Week 1, protecting Patrick Mahomes’ blindside. Simmons fell to pick No. 32 due to a patella injury, but the Chiefs had no concerns, and it’s paying off so far.”

Ian Rapoport echoed Schultz’s report. The NFL Network insider visited Chiefs training camp and was impressed by what he saw from Simmons. Despite being a rookie and the previous concerns about his torn patellar tendon, Simmons looks poised to be the starting left tackle.

“Getting the opportunity to watch Josh Simmons, the first-round left tackle for the Chiefs was something. I mean, he’s as athletic as they said and it is so impossibly hard to find these guys. I know because the Chiefs have been trying. They signed Jawaan Taylor in free agency, they signed Jaylon Moore and he might end up playing guard, and they drafted Josh Simmons. It’s a little bit of a gamble (because of the torn patellar tendon). He has been healthy. He has been great. It looks like this is the kind of guy who could be their left tackle for their next 12 years. An unbelievable outcome.”
