The Cleveland Browns are already considering signing a former quarterback from Andy Reid's Kansas City Chiefs in case negotiations for Russell Wilson for the 2025 NFL season don't succeed.

During the offseason, several quarterbacks have been available for the 2025 NFL season, while many franchises are looking to fill that central role. The case of the Cleveland Browns is an example of this, with Russell Wilson as their primary interest for QB. However, it has been revealed that the franchise may attempt to sign a former player from Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s team.

Looking toward the Chiefs, whether it’s for wanting players who have played there recently, is an attempt to imitate a model of success in the league, as they are a dynasty capable of consistently competing for Super Bowl titles in recent years. In the case of the Browns, this vision is represented by seeking a plan B in case negotiations for Wilson do not come to a successful conclusion.

Wilson visited the Browns’ facilities last Thursday and has been considered as an option to strengthen the team’s quarterback position. However, no agreement has been reached so far, and for that reason, Cleveland is now looking favorably at a former player from Andy Reid’s team.

Which former Chiefs player is of interest to the Browns?

The player from Andy Reid‘s Chiefs who could join the Browns is none other than Carson Wentz. “They definitely have mutual interest” in him as their quarterback if they don’t sign Russell Wilson, reported Cleveland.com writer Mary Kay Cabot.

In 2016, the Browns passed on the chance to select Carson Wentz with the second overall pick in the draft, and now they are interested in him after he became a free agent following the end of his one-year contract with the Chiefs. However, in Cleveland, Wilson remains the top priority.

Will Wilson come to the Browns?

Wilson’s addition to the Browns faces several obstacles. First, the Cleveland organization is already making a significant investment in Deshaun Watson, who has a salary of $37 million for the upcoming season. This scenario limits the ability to offer Russ a competitive contract.
