The Cleveland Browns have made a final decision on which quarterback to cut among Shedeur Sanders, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Tyler Huntley. According to a report by Adam Schefter, head coach Kevin Stefanski has communicated his decision to the team’s front office.
“Browns are releasing quarterback Tyler Huntley, per source. Cleveland has been planning to keep its other four QBs (Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders) on its 53-man roster. Odd but true: Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley was the only quarterback on the Browns this summer who has been voted to a Pro Bowl. He now is being released.”
What is already certain is that the Browns will carry four quarterbacks on their final 53-man roster, something very unusual at the start of the season. However, Cleveland has seen value in that QB room. The big decision still to be revealed is who will be Joe Flacco’s backup. If Pickett manages to recover, the former Steelers quarterback would take on that role.
Did Browns release Shedeur Sanders?
No. The Browns have not released Shedeur Sanders and, according to reports from Schefter and Mike Garafolo, the rookie will be on the team’s final roster by Tuesday’s deadline.
However, Huntley’s departure is bittersweet for Shedeur, as Sanders spoke highly of him after the preseason game against the Rams. “I’m blessed for him to be here, regardless if he’s here or not come Monday or Tuesday. I’m definitely thankful and blessed that he was able to come in my life and teach me great lessons.”
