The Detroit Lions have had an active offseason in 2025, focused on strengthening their roster and maintaining the competitiveness achieved in recent years. With Jared Goff as the star and head coach Dan Campbell as the tactical leader, the NFC North division team will aim to go far in the upcoming NFL season.

These days have seen movement for the Lions. In recent hours, the organization made a notable decision by extending safety Kerby Joseph’s contract for four years and $86 million, making him the highest-paid safety in NFL history.

The goal for this year is clearly to make a deep run after falling short of expectations last season. In that direction, Campbell and the Lions have decided to release one of star quarterback Jared Goff’s backups, aiming to streamline the roster and upgrade their options at the position.

Goff’s backup to leave Lions

The Lions have made the final decision to release backup quarterback Jake Fromm. Despite the move, the position retains its depth, and next season the quarterback room will consist of three players: Jared Goff, Hendon Hooker, and Kyle Allen.

The Lions’ offseason hasn’t brought major roster changes, as most of the adjustments came within the coaching staff. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson left to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears, while defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn joined the New York Jets. The upcoming season will be a challenge to see how the team performs tactically under these changes.
