Tua Tagovailoa may still count on the Miami Dolphins‘ confidence to be their starting quarterback for the 2025 NFL season, but the team continues to make changes this offseason. Recently, a flurry of roster moves saw him lose a longtime teammate as well as a player who won a Super Bowl with Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs.
On Tuesday, the Dolphins announced their parting ways with four players. Apart from waiving cornerback Ryan Cooper Jr., defensive tackle Neil Farrell and offensive lineman Chasen Hines; the team have also released long snapper Blake Ferguson.
This allows the Fins to open four roster spots for their 90-man offseason roster. Miami will be hosting a number of players this upcoming weekend at its rookie minicamp, where Reid and the Chiefs could lose a potential replacement to Travis Kelce.
Tagovailoa loses Dolphins teammate from his same Draft class
Ferguson, 28, was part of the same class as Tagovailoa, with both players being selected by the Dolphins in the 2020 NFL Draft. A National Champion with Joe Burrow at LSU, Ferguson spent significant time with Tua since both moved to South Florida.

Farrell, a Super Bowl champion once again changing teams
Farrell’s departure also makes some noise, even if he didn’t spend much time in Miami. Seven of the 19 appearances he’s made in the NFL came last season with the Dolphins, where he recorded two tackles.
A National Champion alongside Ferguson at LSU in 2019, Farrell was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders in the fourth-round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but his tenure in the Sin City didn’t last long.
In August 2023, the Raiders traded him to AFC West rivals Chiefs, where Farrell went on to celebrate another title, this time as a pro. With one tackle and one pass defended, he contributed to Reid and company’s Super Bowl LVIII win over the San Francisco 49ers.
