The Philadelphia Eagles will enter the 2025 season as the defending champions. Not only do they have Jalen Hurts under center, but they also have another promising option on the roster in Tanner McKee, who has already shown he has the arm to be a top-tier player.

McKee had a stellar first half, completing 14 of 17 passes for 193 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. With an impressive 153.2 passer rating and 11.4 yards per attempt, he led the Eagles to a score on four of their five possessions, finishing the half with three total touchdowns.

ā€œI’m just going to take advantage of any opportunity that’s given to me. Right now it’s getting ready for the Browns for next week and obviously earlier today was getting ready for the Bengals. So obviously I’m just going to be looking for the next week and ready for whatever happens, whether they’re playing their starters, the backups, whatever happens.ā€ Mckee said.

McKee: ā€˜The Standard’s Still the Same’

McKee is exuding confidence heading into the game, pointing that the offense controls its own destiny regardless of the opponent. McKee believes that if the offense executes its plays cleanly, no defense can stop them. His comments highlight the team’s focus on its own execution rather than worrying about the opposition.

ā€œWe’ll be ready to move the ball and execute. The standard’s still the same no matter who’s in front of us. I always like it as an offense, it is always on us. It’s never on the defense, so it doesn’t matter who’s across the line, they could know what we’re doing, but as long as we execute, we should still be able to move the ball.ā€

Can McKee take Jalen Hurts’ job?

Despite McKee’s impressive NFL preseason performance, he is not a threat to Jalen Hurts’ starting role. Hurts is the established franchise quarterback who led the team to a Super Bowl and is among the best in the league. While McKee’s play is a promising sign for the team’s future, it will not be enough to unseat the current starter.
