Aaron Rodgers is no longer with the New York Jets, and winds of change are blowing through the franchise. Now tactically led by head coach Aaron Glenn, the team is undergoing a major rebuild for the 2025 NFL season and wants to see results quickly. To achieve this, the front office continues making decisions about the roster.
It seems like the Jets want to overhaul everyone who has shared the field with Rodgers. This could be a strategic approach since the team is heading in a different tactical direction while the generational shift is becoming evident. The Jets are looking to rebuild their roster.
While Rodgers still hasn’t decided whether he will join the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Jets have decided to part ways with another one of his former teammates. In addition to wide receiver Davante Adams and kicker Thomas Morstead, another veteran has been added to the list of players released in New York.
Who is the player released by the Jets?
The former Rodgers teammate leaving the Jets is none other than veteran kicker Greg Zuerlein, who was released after a disappointing 2024 season in which injuries and poor performance limited him to just eight games.

During the past season, Zuerlein didn’t stand out for his contribution to the Jets. The 37-year-old kicker converted just 9 of 15 field goal attempts and 13 of 14 extra points. His release frees up approximately $2.4 million in cap space for the Jets.

Jets and Rodgers could face each other soon
As if that weren’t enough, the Jets could face Aaron Rodgers in their 2025 NFL season opener on Sunday, September 7, when New York takes on the Steelers. For that to happen, A-Rod would need to finally accept Pittsburgh’s offer. At the same time, quarterback Justin Fields will be wearing green as he goes up against his former team.
