The San Francisco 49ers want to give Brock Purdy a stronger team for the 2025 NFL season. To do so, the NFC West club has acquired a former teammate of Patrick Mahomes from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Last year, the 49ers had a disappointing season. Despite being seen as top contenders, they fell short of expectations—largely due to the numerous injuries the team suffered throughout the campaign.
Now, the NFC West team is determined to turn things around and have an extraordinary 2025 season. As a result, the front office is making key acquisitions to build a more competitive roster capable of fighting for the Super Bowl.
49ers sign new offensive player who previously played for the Chiefs
The 49ers are determined not to repeat last year’s mistakes. Ahead of the 2024 campaign, San Francisco was considered a Super Bowl favorite, but the season turned out to be a major letdown.
Injuries and underwhelming performances kept the 49ers from even reaching the playoffs. Now, the team is focused on a major rebuild to reestablish itself as a true contender.

This offseason, San Francisco has already begun reshaping its roster. Most recently, the team added a new piece to help quarterback Brock Purdy—a player who played alongside Patrick Mahomes last year.
The 49ers have signed offensive tackle D.J. Humphries for the 2025 NFL season, according to his representation, AMDG Sports. Humphries was with the Chiefs last year but managed to appear in only two games due to injury.
A first-round pick in 2015 by the Arizona Cardinals, Humphries was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021. Although injuries have hampered him in recent seasons, the 49ers are bringing him in to serve as a backup to veteran left tackle Trent Williams.
