The Pittsburgh Steelers continue their efforts to finalize Aaron Rodgers‘ possible arrival for the 2025 NFL season. The negotiation has drawn attention from everyone within the black & gold franchise, including their family members. The father of wide receiver George Pickens criticized head coach Mike Tomlin‘s organization amid the talks for A-Rod.
Constant quarterback changes don’t seem to be the best idea for a receiver to gain a foothold in a team’s offense. Nor was it a favorable scenario for Tomlin and his strategic decisions. In that sense, Pickens, despite his controversial off-field attitudes, had to deal with being targeted by different styles of players.
If it happens, Rodgers‘ arrival as the QB1 would be for one year only. The Steelers are awaiting his final response to an offer that has already been made and seems to depend on the former Super Bowl champion’s desire to continue playing professionally with the Green Bay Packers. For Pickens’ father, this is another short-term solution and he has been vocal about it.
Pickens’ father’s strong message to the Steelers
Tomlin and the rest of the Steelers organization received a strong statement from Pickens’ father. “Food for Thought: GP has played with 1 Tribusky, 2 Pickett, 3 Rodolph, 4 Wilson, 5 Fields, 6 ????. All in 3 years. I can appreciate your sanity #14,” he said, according to a post by Dov Kleiman on X (formerly Twitter).

George Pickens of the Pittsburgh Steelers
Pickens has been the center of criticism for his inconsistent performances, but it’s true that having six quarterbacks in three seasons is a major complication. The variety of names that have passed through the Steelers at that position highlights the struggles Pittsburgh has faced in establishing a long-term project.

Is Rodgers the solution for the Steelers?
Pickens’ father highlighted a symptom of the problem the Steelers have faced in recent years. Pittsburgh has been unable to win a playoff game in eight seasons, and the solution seems to be changing quarterbacks, following the departures of Justin Fields and Russell Wilson. The upcoming season will be crucial to determine if the potential arrival of Rodgers is the answer that head coach Tomlin’s team needs to make a deep postseason run.
