NFL News: Jared Goff teammate in stable condition after scary hit during Lions preseason opener

One of the Detroit Lions’ young talents — and a teammate of Jared Goff — took a hard hit during the team’s preseason opener, but fortunately, the latest update on his condition is highly encouraging.

Jared Goff will have most of his teammates from last season back this year as the Detroit Lions aim for another deep playoff run, but recently he nearly lost one of the young talents on the roster after a hard hit left the player convulsing on the field.

It happened in a preseason game against the Falcons — a time of year that can be just as tough as the regular season despite most starters sitting out. The injured Lions player was Morice Norris, who had to be carted off the field.

The good news is that despite taking a brutal hit to the head from an opposing player, the Lions have announced that Norris is in stable condition — a sign he may still be able to join Goff and the rest of the team during the regular season.

How long does it take to recover from a head injury?

It depends on the severity of the injury. In this case, the exact nature of Norris’s injury has not been confirmed, but the team’s update noted he has regained movement in all extremities — an encouraging sign of a quick recovery.

“Morice Norris is in stable condition and has feeling and movement in all his extremities. He will remain at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta overnight for observation. We would like to thank the Atlanta Falcons organization, the EMS team at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the doctors and staff at Grady for their support.”

Norris’s contract

Norris is currently on a one-year deal with the Lions worth $840,000 for the NFL season. That means the franchise isn’t at risk of losing a major contract if he can’t return for most of the year, though in his rookie season he appeared in just two games.
