NFL News: Jerry Jones confirms Micah Parsons rejected an incredible contract offer to stay with Cowboys

Jerry Jones and the Cowboys thought they had locked up their defensive superstar with a record-breaking offer, but Micah Parsons' camp wasn't satisfied.

Jerry Jones confirmed in an interview with Michael Irvin that the Cowboys made a formal offer to Micah Parsons to make him the highest-paid defensive player in history in terms of guaranteed money. The proposal would have surpassed the benchmark set by Myles Garrett with the Browns ($123 million guaranteed).

“The world would know that I want Micah if they knew what I had offered him. He knows what I offered. I’ve agreed to give him more money than has ever been given in terms of guaranteed money than anyone ever has as far as a defensive player. I’ve done that. Now, I am the cat that writes the check. Micah’s got three years with the Cowboys left. He’s got three years. At some point, somebody has to have the say over the other. At some point it has to be that way.”

However, according to the owner, the player’s agent rejected that offer, causing negotiations for a contract extension to stall. On one side, Parsons has threatened to leave the team, while Jones has responded that, technically, the Dallas Cowboys can keep him for three more years through the use of the franchise tag.

Will Micah Parsons leave the Cowboys?

Micah Parsons has publicly stated that he wants to leave the Cowboys and has erased all traces of the team from social media. Nevertheless, Jerry Jones is convinced that everything can be resolved easily if both sides can meet in the middle.

“We’ve got this resolved in my mind for the Dallas Cowboys. We’ve got it done. If the agent wants to finish up the details, which he should, and do all the paperwork, he can do that and we’re ready to go. As far as the amount of money, the years, the guarantees, all of that, we’ve negotiated that.”
