Kirk Cousinsā future is one of the most intriguing storylines of the 2025 NFL offseason. The 36-year-old quarterback is nearing an exit from the Atlanta Falcons, and head coach Raheem Morris has shared some strong words about the situation. Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns are waiting.
Rumors suggest that Cousins has his future with the Browns, with a chance to come to Cleveland after the draft when his no-trade clause expires. The veteran quarterback is looking for a starting job and could get it with head coach Kevin Stefanskiās team.
Cousins will likely not be the starter next season, as the Falcons decided to give the job to Michael Penix Jr. The team does not have high expectations for the former Minnesota Vikings player, as Morris made clear.
Morrisā message to Cousins
āIām not going to be foolish to think that heās going to show up for voluntary work. If a trade is good for both of us, weād like to see that happen,ā Morris said in an interview in the NFL owners meetings in Palm Beach.

Raheem Morris speaks to the media after being introduced as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on February 05, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia.
āWeāre dealing with a business-type mode right now. I donāt think heāll be there. If he is, weāll welcome him with open arms. But Iām not going to be fool enough to make myself get worked up and angry about Kirk Cousins missing voluntary workouts,ā he said.

Morris discussed Cousinsā big contract with Falcons
Cousins signed a four-year, $180 million deal last season with the Falcons, marking a significant commitment. However, the deal was made before Atlanta selected Michael Penix in the first round of the draft. Morris did not shy away from addressing the situation.
āWe invested in Kirk last year. We invested in some major way, and right now we feel really strong about him being our backup quarterback and the things he can do for us,ā Morris said, being clear about Cousins, the possible second option for the QB spot.
