After not being selected as quickly as expected, a report has surfaced regarding Michigan’s Will Johnson, pointing to what may be NFL teams’ main concern about the cornerback.

Will Johnson wasn’t just dominant during his time at Michigan — he was widely expected to be selected quickly in the 2025 NFL Draft. But that still hasn’t happened, and now a report may shed light on what’s going on with the star cornerback.

“Michigan CB Will Johnson Jr. has a knee issue that has concerned some NFL teams and helps explain why he still has not been selected.” That’s how Adam Schefter reportedly put it on X, pointing to a knee condition that could be slowing down Johnson’s draft momentum.

It’s worth noting that Johnson was one of the top defensive players frequently featured in mock drafts. He had been linked to several big-name teams, including the Green Bay Packers, and was even projected to go No. 11 overall to the San Francisco 49ers — but none of that has materialized so far.

How good was Will Johnson at Michigan?

Over three seasons with Michigan, Johnson appeared in 32 games, racking up 68 total tackles — 57 of them solo — and nine interceptions. He was a consistently dominant presence. His 2024 season was cut short, however, as he played in just six games and logged 14 tackles.

There’s still no clear confirmation on the exact nature of Johnson’s injury. During his college career, there were no reported issues with his knees across three seasons. The only mention had been a “toe injury,” which is obviously far removed from the current concern.

Other teammates have already been drafted

Meanwhile, several of Johnson’s Michigan teammates have already been taken in the first round — including Mason Graham (Browns), Colston Loveland (Bears), and Kenneth Grant (Dolphins). Other Wolverines are expected to come off the board in the next rounds, and many are watching to see what happens with Johnson.
