Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers would not select a quarterback in the first round, according to the latest report from Gerry Dulac. Despite the rumors about Shedeur Sanders and Jaxson Dart, that position would not be the priority in the draft that will take place in Green Bay, unless there’s a major shakeup in the board.
“The Steelers are not anticipating taking a quarterback in the first round, but that doesn’t mean the possibility doesn’t exist. For that to happen, though, most of their other targets on the defensive line, and even running back, would already have to be off the board.”
If this is confirmed, the most viable route for the Steelers would be to take a quarterback in the third round, where they could find names like Will Howard or Jalen Milroe. All of this regardless of what Aaron Rodgers decides.
Who will be Steelers starting QB for next season?
The Steelers have Aaron Rodgers as an option to be the starting quarterback and, if that doesn’t materialize, Mason Rudolph is the second alternative heading into training camp and preseason.
If the Steelers draft a quarterback and Rodgers doesn’t arrive, the big question is whether Skylar Thompson keeps the No. 3 spot or if Pittsburgh goes to the market for names like Carson Wentz or, in a hypothetical trade with the Falcons, Kirk Cousins.
