Aaron Rodgers is the number one target for the Pittsburgh Steelers despite not having signed a contract after his visit to the city. In fact, Mike Tomlin and the team knew in advance that the meeting wouldn’t bring a definitive decision, but they wanted to show the quarterback that they are fully on board with him, according to a report from Jeremy Fowler.
“He spent all day there. Just more of a get-to-know exploratory session. They weren’t talking hard numbers. They’ve already got a contract offer standing out to Rodgers in place. So, they talked about fit. He met with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, Mike Tomlin, owner Art Rooney, general manager Omar Khan. In fact, I was told the Steelers wanted to make this meeting happen so much that they skipped Michigan’s pro day which for the Steelers is a big deal. Their whole contingent goes every big pro day. So, they stood in town to meet with him.”
Now, all that’s left is to wait for the former Super Bowl champion to choose where he wants to play. For several days now, there haven’t been many teams involved in the pursuit to sign him. It’s down to the Steelers, Giants, and, in a very complicated scenario if J.J. McCarthy fails, the Vikings.
Is Aaron Rodgers going to the Steelers?
The Steelers are currently the top option for Aaron Rodgers, but anything is possible. The Giants are not ruled out yet despite signing Jameis Winston, and another name still in the mix for both teams is Russell Wilson.
However, Fowler’s report indicates that the Steelers will aggressively pursue Rodgers, and that the Winston move only caused Wilson to become a Plan B again when he seemed completely ruled out.
