The saga of Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers still doesnât have a concrete resolution. However, Mike Tomlinâs team isnât resting on its laurels and continues to strengthen its roster. Looking ahead to the upcoming NFL season, a key player for the offense is joining the team from the Patriots.
Lecitus Smith, who most recently played for the New England Patriots, has agreed to join Pittsburgh and will become a Steeler starting next season. If all goes as expected, his task will be nothing short of protecting Aaron Rodgers.
The news was reported by NFL insider Tom Pelissero, who took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to announce the arrival of the guard after he was released by New England.
âTwo players the #Patriots cut recently were claimed off waivers today: Guard Lecitus Smith is headed to the #Steelers, while LB Curtis Jacobs joins the #Titans,â the insider reported via @TomPelissero.

Lecitus Smith #54 of the Arizona Cardinals walks off the field after a preseason game against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium on August 27, 2022 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans defeated the Cardinals 26-23.
Since arriving in the NFL in 2022 from Virginia Tech, the Steelers will be the sixth team that Smith will be a part of. He previously played for the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, and the aforementioned Patriots.

Will Rodgers join the Steelers?
The decision regarding Rodgersâ future in the NFL seems unlikely to reach a conclusion in the short term. While meetings between the QB and Pittsburgh are said to have gone well, the Steelers reportedly believe Aaron Rodgers will visit another team that seriously wants him.
According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, despite adding Jameis Winston to their roster just a few days ago, the New York Giants are still interested in adding the experienced player and could schedule a visit in the near future.
âSo whatâs next? Well, Steelers folks seemed to think coming out of their meeting that heâd probably do a similar day with the Giants to get a vibe for their building, and what head coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen have built,â Breer stated.
