Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers are keeping the door open for Aaron Rodgers, whoās still undecided about his future even after the 2025 NFL Draft. Still, the team isnāt letting its interest in the star quarterback affect other roster moves.
As a matter of fact, the Steelers didnāt hesitate to part ways with a former teammate of Rodgers. On Monday, NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Pittsburgh is releasing defensive tackle Montravius Adams.
Adams, 29, spent four years with Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers, who drafted him with the No. 93 pick in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. During his time at Lambeau Field, the Auburn product made three starts in 45 appearances.

Adams left Rodgersā Packers when his rookie deal expired in 2021, a year that saw him spend time with the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints before landing in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers gave him significant playing time, with Adams making 21 starts in 46 games played under Tomlin. Heās leaving the team with 72 combined tackles (38 solo, 34 assisted, and six for loss), three passes defended, and a forced fumble.

While Tomlin and the coaches certainly had reasons not to deem Adams untouchable, the financial aspect may be the biggest reason behind his release. Adams was set to count $3.125 million against the salary cap. With his exit, the Steelers will save $2.25M.

His departure, however, creates an intriguing question as Tomlin will have to identify the new backup nose tackle for Keeanu Benton. Derrick Harmon and Yahya Black, both selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, are expected to compete for that job.
