Aaron Rodgers still hasn’t responded to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offer, and patience is beginning to wear thin within the black and gold franchise. Head coach Mike Tomlin has started exploring other options at the quarterback position ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
Rodgers does not have many options left for his future outside of the Steelers. The other team that was interested in him, the Minnesota Vikings, has made a final decision on A-Rod by ruling out the possibility of signing him and choosing instead to focus on developing JJ McCarthy as their starting quarterback.
At this point, only Rodgers knows what he will do next season. Among the many reasons for the delay, previous reports suggested that negotiations had been held up because Rodgers was asking for more money. In that context, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network has provided further details on the situation.
Will the Steelers continue to wait for Rodgers?
”The Steelers don’t have an answer. And at some point here, you are going to have to make other decisions that impact your football team for years to come, that are hiring on one 41-year old making up his mind, and just saying, ‘Yes, done, I’m coming’. The contract parameters have been in place for weeks. It’s going to be a one-year deal, when it’s get done. But they don’t have the final ‘I’m in’,” Pelissero said.

The perspective shared by Pelissero highlights a dilemma surrounding the Tomlin‘s Steelers. As team owner Art Rooney II said last week, they are willing to wait but not forever. The offer is already on the table and finances do not seem to be an issue, but Rodgers has yet to give his answer.

Steelers evaluate alternatives to Rodgers’ delay
Tomlin and the Steelers know they are putting their future on the line this season by hinging all their plans on A-Rod’s decision. For that reason, the Pittsburgh franchise explored the possibility of adding Kirk Cousins from the Atlanta Falcons and also showed interest in quarterback Joe Milton III, who ultimately ended up joining the Dallas Cowboys.
At the same time, it was revealed in recent hours that the Steelers hosted a visit from a young star quarterback who could be signed as an alternative to Rodgers. The player in question is Jaxson Dart, the standout prospect from Ole Miss, part of the Top 30 visits. Everything is still up in the air in Pittsburgh.
