NFL News: Quinn Ewers breaks silence about competing for Dolphins QB1 with Tua Tagovailoa

Quinn Ewers is taking his first steps as a professional after being selected by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The former Texas Longhorns quarterback will compete for the starting job with star signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa.

Despite being considered one of the top prospects at his position, Ewers admitted he was surprised by his fall in the draft, where he was selected by the Dolphins in the 231st overall pick. Although things didn’t go as he had hoped, the former Longhorns quarterback took a positive approach to the situation.

Ewers will have a chance to make his first appearances in the NFL. Sharing the roster with Tagovailoa, the Dolphins’ regular starter, could offer an accelerated learning curve for a potential future star in professional football.

Ewers’ message about sharing a roster with Tagovailoa

“There’s a lot of guys out there right now, and everyone’s fighting for the same job. We’re all competitive, but it’s cool at the same time just because at the end of the day some of these guys are going to end up being teammates with us. But you’ve got to earn the job and earn the trust of those guys as well,” Ewers said according to Associated Press.

Ewers also shared his thoughts on his fall in the draft

“I didn’t expect to fall as low as I did. It is what it is at the end of the day, and I have the same opportunity that everybody else does, and I’m beyond thankful for that. I just want to go in there and play my game and learn and develop as a quarterback,” Ewers said.
