The Seattle Seahawks continue to strengthen their roster for the 2025 NFL season, and after adding quarterback Sam Darnold, they make more moves in the offseason by agreeing to bolster their team with a star who was part of the Dallas Cowboys of owner Jerry Jones for 10 years.
Darnold comes off the best season of his professional career. After JJ McCarthy’s injury, the Vikings had signed the 27-year-old quarterback to a one-year contract to fill that spot in past season. They were unable to retain him in Minnesota, and the former New York Jets player accepted a lucrative offer from the Seahawks.
Jones and the Cowboys are still in rebuilding mode. While they hadn’t made drastic moves, the arrival of new head coach Brian Schottenheimer brings hope after a disappointing last season. This time, America’s Team parts ways with one of its greatest assets.
Which Cowboys player will join Darnold in Seattle?
The new Seahawks player who will join Darnold in Seattle is none other than defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who had been playing for the Cowboys since 2014. The 32-year-old veteran has agreed to a three-year deal.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reported that Lawrence’s contract with the Seahawks is worth $42 million, with $18 million guaranteed. The veteran defensive end is looking to revive his career after missing much of last season due to a long-term injury.

Lawrence’s career with the Cowboys
It will be a significant change of pace for Lawrence, who spent his entire professional career playing for the Cowboys. He arrived in Dallas more than ten years ago when owner Jerry Jones’ franchise drafted him as the 34th overall pick in 2014. The 32-year-old player currently ranks tenth in the team’s history with 61.5 sacks.
